Review CD by Mike Gross "Swingin' West"
Reid Wells and Segovia 1862 have just released their third
album, a follow-up to a former number one CD. This CD of 12 super songs, both standards and new material, looks as if it could reach the same position.
The band features Reid Wells doing the vocals and brother
Carson Wells playing steel guitar. The multi-talented Bobby Flores plays some fantastic guitar and is also heard playing some simply incredible fiddle. Another very talented musician, Jake Hooker
plays bass and the versatile Jim Loesberg is the drummer. Former Asleep At The Wheel piano legend, Floyd Domino does his usual very popular styling on the ivories. The engineer is another steel
guitar favorite, the wonderful Tommy Detamore.
The album opens with Reid in the vocal spotlight on a super
Texas tune Someone in Dallas and then goes on to one of his originals Grandpa's Barn. Other Reid Wells originals include the beautiful waltz I Imagine her in my Arms, She's Just in Your Dreams,
the super instrumental 1862 Ride and another with huge hit potential, More Than I Ever Bargained For. Reid and the group go to the great Gene Autry movie collection for It Happened in Monterey
and to Bob Wills for Bob and Johnny Gimble's I Needed You.
Another fine instrumental is the old Everly Brothers hit Let
it Be me and a true gem is Reid in the vocal spotlight on Lost my Baby Blues. Reid and the band also bring back two other standards, You Win Again from the Hank Williams songbag and Willie
Nelson's Night Life from the great Ray Price.
The album can be obtained by e-mail at reidwells@stx.rr.com or
by phone at 1-830-896-0334 for $15, which includes shipping and postage in the USA ($18 outside the US.)
